Tuba and ophicleide are in unison or octaves; 1 instrument is probably sufficient.
Berlioz wrote in a letter to Hans von Bülow that the tenor solo could be sung by a soprano.
Two additional movements, the Prélude and the March, are intended only for use on quasi-military occasions; see the following two entries. They are both included (the Prélude as an appendix) in the Bärenreiter edition score and parts of the complete work.
