No autograph manuscript of the orchestration for this concerto survives, and it is said that the much-criticized orchestral accompaniment was not entirely the work of the 19-year-old Chopin. This version, published by Breitkopf in 1880, has long held sway, but has been challenged by other contenders (see the following entries).
