SIX SYMPHONIES AFTER OVID'S METAMORPHOSES
Specific information available for subscribers.
Fifteen symphonies were planned, and only 12 were composed; only these 6 survive (dating from the early 1780s). These 6 correspond to the first 6 Metamorphoses by Ovid. The last two symphonies, based on Metamorphoses V & VI, where published and recorded as part of the cycle of 6, appear in the opposite order (VI and then V), presumably for the purposes of providing an adequate conclusion to the cycle.
