A note in the score, presumably authorized by the composer, suggests that a cut of the enitre development section is "practical for ordinary performances." A 6-measure transitional passage is provided; the cut (from letter [I] to [N]) reduces the duration by about 7'.
A separate transition (
Kürzung, p.136) may be employed to somewhat reduce the length of the cut (from [I] to 30 bars before [M]).
