Orchestra divided into 4 separate chamber orchestras:

The work is 40 measures long, with all 4 chamber orchestras together in the score. Each chamber orchestra plays alone (Nocturnes 1-4), followed by Nocturne 5: all 4 chamber orchestras play their individual nocturnes again, now superimposed.
