There are two editions of Symphony No.8 (1890, Cahis 16) offering differing notions of what revisions to the work the composer truly intended. The Robert Haas edition (1935) is preferred by some conductors and scholars because it includes more music; Haas "restored" certain cuts made by Bruckner on grounds that the composer had been subjected to undue outside influences (principally by Josef Schalk). The Leopold Nowak edition (1955) takes a more pristine view and accepts all Bruckner's cuts as valid.
