The new critical edition of the complete works of Nielsen (Series 1, v.8, 2002) includes the composer's instructions for the 4th mvt, "Market Place in Ispahan," in which the orchestra is divided into 4 separate ensembles playing independently of one another, each in its own tempo.
Kalmus and Luck's editions each call for only 2 flutes, both doubling piccolo. However, the switching from fl to pic and vice versa, is often very sudden; use of 3 players may still be preferred.
