The composer's instructions for instrumentation are extremely permissive, and list numerous options, in the spirit of the theatre orchestra of the early 20th-century United States. The Gunther Schuller arrangement is given here; the Ives Society instrumentation differs somewhat.
Movements are published separately, some by companies other than Merion, as shown in the contents below in square brackets; however, the work as a whole may be had from Merion.
1. The See'r [pub. AMP]
2. A Lecture (Tolerance)
3. The Ruined River (The New River) [pub. Peer]
4. Like a Sick Eagle
5. Calcium Light Night (arr. Cowell)
6. Allegretto sombreoso (Incantation) [pub. Peer]
