Originally calling for 2 horns rather than 4. Horns 3&4 were not added until a fourth reprinting of the concerto (Peters, 1917), based on Grieg’s revisions of 1907. The additions are largely doublings of horns 1&2, and are sometimes omitted in modern performances.
