A "surround sound" work that requires unusual seating of the brass sections; the chorus and the whistling tubes are to be behind the audience. An extra 4-8 players are required for the whistling tubes.
The solo euphonium in the 2nd mvt may be replaced by a solo horn.
A reduced orchestra version uses standard brass (4 3 3 1) and tmp+3, along with woodwind and strings as indicated. A version for wind band is also available.
The movements may be performed separately.
