Over the course of 25 years, Bach produced at least 4 versions of this work: 1724, 1725, 1732(?), an unfinished revision in 1739, and 1749.
Breitkopf offers the original version in an edition by G. Sievers. Bärenreiter gives the 1725 version, ed. Arthur Mendel. Carus gives the 1749 version, with materials from the earlier versions in an appendix.
