The elaborate program of this symphony anticipates that of Beethoven's 6th, and it is said [Oxford Dictionary of Music, 2nd ed, 1994] that Beethoven would have known of it, since the program was printed in an advertisement on the cover of Beethoven's earliest published piano sonatas (1783).
