The soloist plays from different positions within the hall and on the stage. In the last mvt, members of the violin sections, in addition to the soloist, walk slowly among the audience while playing.
The enigmatic title of this work is an anagram of the title of the last mvt. The various mvt titles refer to a celebrated series of six medieval tapestries, known as
La Dame à la Licorne (The Lady and the Unicorn).
I. L'Ouïe (Hearing)
II. La Vue (Sight)
III. L'Odorat (Smell)
IV. Le Toucher (Touch)
