Specific information available for subscribers.
This suite, based on the biblical book of Genesis, was commissioned by Shilkret as a collaborative effort of seven composers: one movement each, composed by Schoenberg, Shilkret himself, Tansman, Milhaud, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Toch, and Stravinsky.
The Schoenberg and Stravinsky movements were published; the Milhaud and Castelnuovo-Tedesco were preserved in manuscript; the Shilkret, Toch and Tansman movements were destroyed in a fire, but reconstructed in 2000 by Patrick Russ, based on surviving condensed scores and a 1945 recording of the originals.
Sources for scores and parts vary from movement to movement, as do the forces required. Therefore each movement is listed individually below, as well as under each individual composer.
