Established 1866, having bought out a previous firm. Associated Music Publishers became Schirmer’s BMI subsidiary in 1964. Schirmer was purchased by US book publisher Macmillan in 1968. In 1986, music publishing was taken over by Music Sales; sales of music given to Hal Leonard; book publishing (Schirmer Books) remained with Macmillan, and rentals remained with Schirmer. In 1989, Schirmer acquired Shawnee Press.

Founded 1770 in Mainz. A Brussels branch of Schott became independent in 1889 under the name Schott Frères. Took over Augener (briefly) in 1910; Ars Viva, 1955; Eulenburg, 1957. In 1977 Schott and Universal established EAM in the USA as a joint agency; in 2005 EAM became a fully-owned subsidiary of Schott Music. Schott purchased Fürstner in 1981, Cranz in 1992, Panton International in 1998, and Hohner in 1998. Later it became publishing agent for Zimmermann and Lienau. Alternative names: B.Schott’s Söhne; Schott & Co. Ltd.; Schott Music Corporation.
Many scores may be perused on the Schott website: search the site for the work desired; if a blue box appears labeled “View Score,” click on it. It is Schott's practice to post new works online as soon as they are engraved.
PSNY (Project Schott New York) is the digital publishing edition of Schott Music, making mainly chamber and ensemble works immediately available even before they are engraved.

Originally (1930s) a Czech record company, Gramofonové Závody-Supraphon. Czech music publishing, after nationalization in 1949, had been under two imprints: Orbis and Hudební Matice. In 1953 these were brought together to become the state publisher under various names, most notably Státní Hudebni Vydavatelství and, in 1967, Editio Supraphon. (In 1971 the Slovak composers were taken over by Opus.) Taken over 1994-1997 by Bärenreiter (as Bärenreiter Editio Supraphon) but then became independent again. In 2000, transferred again back to Bärenreiter Praha.
