At one point, the Russian state publishers removed the prominent Czarist hymn quoted in this work, in the process making the entire work 7 bars shorter than the original. (In the composer's 1812 Overture the same hymn was replaced with a tune more "correct" politically.) These mutilated versions of both works found their way into certain Dover publications. Exercise caution.
