At one point, the Russian state publishers replaced the prominent Czarist hymn quoted in this work with a tune more "correct" politically. (In the composer's
March slave the same offending tune was merely deleted reducing the length of the work by 7 bars.) These mutilated versions found their way into certain Dover publications. Exercise caution.
Similarly, an ending that introduces the national anthem of the USA has been created by Byrwec Ellison (davidbundler@hotmail.com).
Various choral parts have also been created for use with this work. Faber publishes one by Carl Davis with English text by Keith Boyd; Schirmer published one by Igor Buketoff with Russian and English texts.
