Wagner made several revised versions of this opera, as well as its overture. The standard, most commonly-performed version of the overture is the 1860 revision, characterized by the striking appearance of the "Redemption" motive in the final 10 bars: slower in tempo, p dolce in dynamics, and serene in texture.
The two versions offered by Kalmus both are the "standard" reading (not the so-called "original" as Kalmus calls it) with the difference that the Fritz Hoffmann edition includes numerous cues, intended to enable performance with reduced forces.
Schott also offers two versions: the 1841 "Urfassung" which does not use the "Redemption" ending described above, and a version identified as "1846" which may or may not use the "Redemption" ending (this score was not available for inspection).
The last 90 bars or so of the overture are written for clarinets in C.
